If you like skincare products (especially natural ones), then you have probably heard about Korean Skincare, Korean Beauty, K-Beauty & the like. It seems like Korean skincare products took the world by storm a couple of years ago and have managed to prove their effectiveness so much so that everyone is still talking about them.
So why is Korean skincare so popular?
A lot of it comes from research & nature. Korean women are known to spend a considerable amount of time taking care of their skin (10-step Korean skincare routine anyone?) & as a result, they are known for having beautiful soft skin. Many Korean women strive for a porcelain-like glass skin and the market delivers.
The Korean beauty industry has been investing heavily into R&D and has come up with a number of products that help them achieve that. They are known for innovation that works & tends to go viral, for example BB creams, CC creams, sheet masks, under-eye masks, etc., they all originated in Korea.
Korean skincare products are versatile
Sensitive skin is common nowadays, especially among women. In some ethnic groups though, sensitive skin can be more of an issue than in others. Korean women are known to have sensitive skin, so it was very important that the market provides products that are hypoallergenic & with naturally derived formulations.
This turned out to be a great way to market their products to the rest of the world, as they are suitable for most skin types and deliver results without irritation.
Korean beauty is quite affordable for Western markets
Normally when we hear cutting-edge technology, innovation & versatility, all combined with nourishing botanicals, we tend to think that this will be expensive & hard to afford. Not the case though. Korean beauty is quite affordable and you get great value for money.
Highly effective & efficient
Let’s face it, if something doesn’t perform as expected, it doesn’t matter how much you advertise it. If it works well though, the word goes out and people get hooked. This is what we have here, Korean beauty is known to deliver as expected. Korean products’ effects will be visible for months and not only on the days that you use them. As with anything in life, consistency is key.
Natural ingredients that nourish your skin from the inside out
Green tea, gold, snail slime, bee venum, donkey milk…these are just some of the ingredients that you can find in Korean products. They may sound odd or off-putting, but customers swear by them. If you look closer you’d see that some of these ingredients have amazing skin benefits. For instance, tomatoes are full of antioxidants, can shrink large pores & brighten dull skin; snail mucus hydrates, prevents wrinkles from appearing & improves skin elasticity.
Prevention rather than treatment
One big difference between Western skincare brands & Korean brands is that Korean products concentrate on prevention rather than treatment of existing conditions. For instance, you’d see anti-aging products for 20-year-olds because they start nourishing the skin before it’s time for the wrinkles to appear. It is much easier to prevent something from happening than to revert it to its original condition. It’s the same as your weight, it is much easier to maintain a certain weight than to lose it.
As with all products you use, make sure you check the ingredients on the products before you use them and confirm that controversial ingredients (such as gold) are ethically sourced.
